Paula Tin Nyo – Founder & Executive Director
Initiatives: Artists, Mocamy
Paula Tin Nyo, a native of Myanmar and a graduate of Yale University, is a third generation artist and writer from the premiere media family in post-colonial Burma. As one of the intellectual and artistic diaspora now returning to Myanmar after four decades of its isolation, she contributes her robust background in cultural education, writing and media ethics to bridging the global arts and education community.
Since the suspension of US trade sanctions, Ms. Tin Nyo has made over a dozen trips back to Myanmar to personally meet artists from her homeland in their private studios and select artwork to exhibit to the international community. Ms. Tin Nyo has appeared as guest speaker for Art Basel Miami, Yale Asian Alumni Convention, National University of Singapore Forum, Jacaranda Music, and other venues.
Ms. Tin Nyo is a mother of four and has been an educator for 20 years. She has taught at Nevada City School of the Arts, a blue-ribbon charter school in California, Maryland’s public schools, as well as the International Baccalaureate program at Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, FL. She considers children as her inspiration for the future.
Jennifer Henbest de Calvillo – Secretary & Director of Art Walkabout
Initiatives: Art Walkabout, Mocamy
Jennifer is an American artist and teacher currently living in the countryside between Kyoto and Osaka in Japan. A traveller at heart she has traveled and taught at different international schools in Africa and Asia. She has keen interest in mixed media in her artwork and takes inspiration from places she visits and where she calls home!
She feel a certain poignant clarity of intention as she personally fell in love with gold leaf lacquer and all things Burmese at the first sound of a tingling golden ti! Dreams of southeast Asia were set into action in 2001 when she left Zimbabwe to teach art at the International School in Yangon! Her interest in educating people about Myanmar art and culture and creating cultural exchange through art is the reason she is volunteering to help YAIF’s Art Walkabout & Mocamy initiatives create bridges and help foster creative exchange and understanding through education and international information sharing!
